5 Hot coastal property markets

The demand for homes offering a better work-from-home environment shows no signs of slowing down and many property experts are predicting that ex-city slickers will want to move to more relaxed areas in 2022. This is also evident in the number of commercial properties up for sale as companies work towards reducing their office footprint.

Homebuyers now have the freedom to buy where they want and not where they need to, upgrading homes to fit their office needs instead of settling on a home just because it is close to the office.

It comes as no surprise therefore that the demand for coastal homes – particularly in the Eastern and Western Cape – is set to continue.

We take a look at five coastal markets that are set to be very popular in 2022.

George

What can we say about this incredible Garden Route town that has not been said before? Incredible landscapes, stunning ocean views, and a welcoming community are just some of the reasons why people love living here.

The Khoi referred to this valley as Outeniqualand - which means the land of “milk and honey” - a fairly fitting description of the lush valley.

It is ideally located and boasts not one but three world-class golf courses. These courses include Fancourt, Kingswood, and Oubaai. There are various shopping and entertainment options, while residents also have easy access to various medical facilities. There are both private and public schools in close proximity to most of the areas and residential developments in George, making this a top choice for parents

The town has always been a laid-back hamlet and although it has grown into a busy town, the residents still enjoy a slower pace in their free time.

Mossel Bay

6 bedroom house for sale in Reebok, Mossel Bay | R4,850,000

Mossel Bay can trace its roots back to 1448 when the explorer Bartholomew Dias first stepped ashore and encountered the Khoi San people. The name Mossel Bay, however, can be credited to Dutch explorer Paulus van Caerden in 1601, inspired by a cave in which he found a collection of mussel shells. This rich history can be seen in the historic buildings dotted throughout the town, including the nearly 200 houses which were built by Cornish stonemasons a century ago.

Despite the hustle and bustle of the industrial operations in town, Mossel Bay is known for its relaxed and unhurried lifestyle.

Among the surf community, Mossel Bay is also seen as one of the favourite spots to catch a wave, but the watersport activities are not limited to just surfing. The waters are also a frequent visiting spot for windsurfers and kiteboarders.

For those who prefer staying on dry land, the prestigious Pinnacle Point Golf Estate is also situated in the town and is frequently ranked as one of the best golf courses in the country.

Education options are varied, making it an easy choice for parents to settle down here. The recent growth of the area also means that amenities in the area have increased to offer more choices for residents.
