Keanu Atkins - Turning Hustle into High-Value Deals in Cape Town’s South Peninsula

For Keanu Atkins, real estate wasn’t part of the original plan, but once it found him, he never looked back. Starting in an intern program with just a phone and a drive to succeed, Keanu has worked his way up to handling high-value properties across Cape Town’s South Peninsula, proving that with hustle, consistency, and heart, you can build something remarkable.

A journey fueled by grit and opportunity

Keanu’s entry into real estate wasn’t a carefully mapped career decision. “I didn’t even know this was a career option,” he admits. But when an industry veteran gave him a chance, he grabbed it. Growing up without much, the industry became more than just a job; it became a platform to create opportunities for himself and others.

His first sale wasn’t a headline-grabber. It was a small deal by most standards, but for Keanu, it was monumental. “All I had was a phone and sheer determination. I cold-called until someone gave me a shot. That first ‘SOLD’ made everything feel possible.”

Championing Cape Town’s South Peninsula

Today, Keanu specialises in the South Peninsula areas of Ocean View, Imhoff's Gift, Kommetjie, Fish Hoek, and Noordhoek, communities he knows intimately because he lives there. “The diversity of these areas is what makes them special. Every home, every deal, every client has a unique story.”

Off-market deals have become a strong point for Keanu, leveraging his deep-rooted community connections to close deals others don’t even see coming.

Navigating a cautious market with confidence

In a market shaped by rising interest rates and economic uncertainty, Keanu has noticed a shift in buyer behaviour. “People are cautious, but serious buyers are always watching,” he says. With stock levels still low, off-market opportunities are becoming increasingly valuable.

When clients ask him the age-old question, “Is now a good time to buy or sell?”, his answer is always tailored to their specific situation, not the headlines. “My job is to guide, not pressure. I walk clients through real options so they can make informed decisions.”

A real hustler in a digital world

Keanu understands that while technology is speeding up the way deals are done, from client matching to virtual tours, it’s the human connection that closes the sale. “I use the tools, but personal hustle is what seals deals,” he says.

If you asked every agent, they’d agree: smarter, more intuitive CRM systems with better call tracking and AI-powered follow-ups would be a game changer, and Keanu is no different.

Speaking of admin, if he could automate one task tomorrow, it would be that. “Admin gets done because it has to, but it’s not where I shine. Freeing up that time means more energy for strategy, client service, and actual deal-making.”

Career highlights and hard-earned wins

One of Keanu’s proudest moments was selling a property above asking price during a flat market. Through careful marketing and relentless effort, he secured a premium offer in just two weeks. “That seller still sends referrals my way,” he says with pride.

But it’s the off-market deals that truly stand out for him. “Closing a deal without listing takes trust, skill, and deep community ties. It’s proof that the groundwork I’ve put in behind the scenes pays off.”

Advice for agents entering the industry

Keanu keeps it real when offering advice to new agents: “Don’t let rejection break you.”

In this industry, you’ll hear “no” more than “yes.” But if you stay consistent, keep learning, and push through, the wins will come. “It’s not easy money. This job will test you in every way: emotionally, mentally, and financially. You’ve got to love people and be willing to put in the work.”

Building relationships that last

For Keanu, great client communication comes down to clarity, honesty, and consistency. “I don’t disappear after an offer is signed. I stay involved from the first call to the final signature. My clients know they can always reach me.”

His number one staging tip for sellers? Declutter. “People aren’t buying your stuff — they’re buying space, light, and flow.”

More than an agent: surf coach, mentor, community builder

If Keanu weren’t in real estate, you’d probably find him coaching surf sessions. As a national surfing judge with Surfing South Africa, mentoring young surfers is another way he gives back. “It’s about focus, flow, and mental strength,  just like real estate.”

He loves sharing local gems with newcomers, from hidden surf spots to tucked-away cafés in Kommetjie, and of course, sunsets from Chapman’s Peak. “This isn’t just a location, it’s a lifestyle.”

Eyes on the horizon: goals for growth

Looking ahead, Keanu’s goals are all about growth. He plans to expand his network, build a robust off-market portfolio, and continue closing the deals others overlook. But most importantly, he’s focused on leveling up, evolving into the agent, mentor, and leader he envisions for himself.

On busy show days, you’ll find him with a flat white in hand — no fluff, just straight-up focus.

In an industry known for its highs and lows, Keanu Atkins stands out as an agent who thrives on grit, hustle, and genuine human connection. His journey is a powerful reminder that with persistence and passion, the possibilities are limitless.
