A Rare and Exceptional Franschhoek Property with Abundant Space to Design a Private Country Estate in the Franschhoek Winelands Valley

Maidenshope, set within the Franschhoek Valley, is the ultimate opportunity to develop your own private country estate with vineyards and mountain views. An opportunity to own a working smallholding country estate in one of South Africa’s most sought-after and recognised landscapes.

Originally forming part of neighbouring La Motte Estate, Maidenshope has remained within the same family since 1972. Today, it offers an increasingly rare setting: a winelands smallholding that retains its agricultural character, with established agricultural land, mountain views and convenient access from the R45.

Extending across approximately 2,78 hectares, the property is defined by its open and inviting landscape, established vineyard and far-reaching views across the surrounding vines towards Simonsberg and Hutchinson’s Peak. Approximately 2,5 hectares are planted to Pinotage, adding an established agricultural element while retaining privacy and space.

The property is zoned Agricultural Zone 1, allowing a private residence, farm buildings, staff accommodation and other permitted agricultural uses. For buyers seeking an equestrian lifestyle, the land also presents the opportunity to accommodate horses.

Its location is a particular strength, with Franschhoek’s centre only about six kilometres away and within easy reach of Paarl and Stellenbosch. Maidenshope offers convenient access while retaining open space and privacy associated with country living. Its proximity to Bridge House School further appeals to families looking to combine a Winelands lifestyle with access to one of the area’s leading schools.

Water is currently supplied via the neighbouring farm for irrigation, with a new borehole in the registration process. At the same time, an electricity transformer is positioned on the property boundary for a direct Eskom connection.

Maidenshope is a property for those drawn to space, privacy and the Winelands character within the Western Cape. With its established vines, mountain outlook, equestrian potential and position at the gateway to Franschhoek, it presents an opportunity to create a highly personal country estate in a setting with enduring appeal.
