Germiston at a glance

Germiston, which is named after co-founder John Jack’s childhood home near Glasgow, is situated in the East Rand.

The town started around the gold found in the area and the biggest gold refinery in the world, namely the Rand Refinery was established here in 1921. Germiston remains an important point of industrial activity as 70% of the world’s gold passes through the refinery.

Although Germiston is a very important industrial area it is still a vast residential area with many restaurants, shopping centres and other various amenities. Because Germiston is only a short drive away from Johannesburg many of the residents commute, which makes the area ideal for those who wants to enjoy all that city life has to offer but is not as busy as Johannesburg.
