Summer is the perfect time to get outside and take care of the home improvement projects you’ve been putting off and novices will be happy to know that not home upgrades and repairs demand extensive time or money to complete.
So says Stephan Thomas, Secure Estate Specialist for Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs adding that not only will it increase the overall value of your home, but little upgrades here and there can also save you a lot of money down the line.

For many people, the mere mention of DIY is anathema but, as Thomas says, not all projects are equal and whilst some will just add value, others will also be a source of great enjoyment once completed.
“There are many ways for you to improve your property without hiring a designer or doing major construction and your home improvement projects don’t have to be grand or expensive to make a strong impact.”

Spruce up the garden
Chances are you'll be spending a lot more time outdoors to enjoy the beautiful summer weather - and it’s one of the very first things a potential buyer will notice.
If you aren’t blessed with green thumbs, you can make a big difference by getting rid of any overgrown or dead plants, cutting back shrubs and trees and trimming the edges of flower beds. And if you want to add a splash of colour, planting one or two, hardy but vibrant plants will do the trick. - Add a patio
A home with a patio will not only allow you to better enjoy spending time outdoors, it will also be more be more impressive to home buyers as it creates the impression of a bigger property. - Bump up your home’s kerb appeal
