New record price achieved in Rondebosch

A Rondebosch estate agent with more than 50 years’ experience selling residential property in the suburb has set a new record for the highest price ever achieved for a single home in the area.   Pearl Sparks of Pam Golding Properties (PGP) recently sold a landmark residence in the so-called “Golden Mile” section of the suburb for R9.75 million.  In doing so, she has substantially topped her own and the suburb’s previous record of R9 million, which she and her partner Robin Midgley secured for the sale of a Victorian villa in Silwood Road, in February 2011.

PGP’s area manager for the Southern Suburbs, Howard Markham, says the new record-breaking deal came courtesy of a cash buyer who paid full asking price for the property, within a fortnight of its listing on the market.  “A local family was quick to recognise the quality and character of this home – not only its prime location in the most sought-after section of the suburb, but also its substantial grounds of over 2400sqm,” he says.  “Rondebosch remains one of the most popular suburbs for family buyers in Cape Town, due to its excellent schools and spacious homes with sizeable gardens.  This property met all the criteria one could list, from five en-suite bedrooms to multiple formal and informal entertainment areas, ample garaging for the family vehicles and a large level garden with tennis court and swimming pool.  It also lies within the catchment area of a number of top private and government schools.”

Markham says the record price is a fitting achievement as Sparks marks her 32nd year with PGP - all of them spent selling in Rondebosch.  “Pearl has been setting records since her early years in the suburb – in 1976 her first such achievement saw a home sold for the princely sum of R67 000!” he says.  “Over the years she has sold a substantial number of the local homes, some of them five or six times over.  She knows this area inside out, and is well acquainted with almost every property. Because of this wealth of experience, she is perfectly positioned to match buyers with the ideal home to suit their needs – even using her extensive network to lead buyers to homes which aren’t yet on the market.  She and Robin also make a substantial effort to stay involved with the community and get to know the local residents, so it’s only natural that they are often the first - and only - choice when it comes time to sell.”
