New frail care facility for Greyton Country Village

A new frail-care and assisted living facility has been launched to market at Greyton Country Village, the secure retirement development located in the scenic Cape Overberg town of Greyton.

The facility is the first of its kind for the town, adding a much-needed alternative to the property mix for retirees in particular.  Pam Golding Properties is marketing the units, priced from R540 000 on a sectional title basis.

PGP’s Greyton agent Douglas Legg says Greyton Country Village is located on the urban edge of the town, set against a beautiful mountain backdrop.  “Greyton Country Village consists of around 60 homes which were built in the early 2000’s,” he says. “These are located within a secure perimeter with 24-hour guards on duty, and each occupies its own title.  The design includes covered verandas and high-quality finishes, with an option of two- or three-bedroomed layouts, most occupying erven of around 400sqm.  The surrounding grounds include magnificent manicured lawns and gardens, as well as a central lake with abundant birdlife, a large clubhouse and bar, and the Village’s own private bowling green.  It is a tranquil yet sociable environment in which residents can enjoy an active and gregarious retirement.”

PGP currently has seven houses available for purchase in Greyton Country Village, with prices ranging from R1.275 million to R1.8 million.  There is a minimum age limit for residents of 50.  Services on offer at the Village include a nursing sister on call, meal delivery by arrangement, and a Red Cross patient care centre on site for those requiring medical assistance such as monitoring of blood pressure and medication intake. The new frail care centre offers more extensive care and supervision for those who need it, including round the clock medical support.  The centre consists of 20 sectional title Assisted Living units, priced from R540 000 for 53sqm.  There are an additional 10 beds in the frail care section, and this service is priced from R9500 per month, excluding individual patient medication.

PGP’s area manager Le Roux van der Merwe says Greyton is an ideal environment for retirees.  “The tree-lined streets with their character-filled thatched homes, huge oak trees and surrounding Sonderend Mountains are not only beautiful but peaceful,” he says, “with a relaxed pace of life and a friendly, neighbourly community.  Greyton is a haven for many artists and crafters, so the town is dotted with numerous quaint shops and galleries displaying their wares.  For the more active, there are a number of excellent golf courses in the near vicinity, including those at Caledon, Kleinmond and Arabella, as well as a number of scenic walks and hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty.”

Van der Merwe adds that the town hosts a number of annual events, among the most popular being its mountain-bike trail and the annual Greyton Rose Fair, taking place this year from 26 to 27 October (2012).  “And for those who wish to spread their wings from time to time, the N2 highway is just over 30km from town,” he says, “offering easy access to Swellendam, Somerset West or Hermanus if one needs to access major medical care and shopping facilities.  Even Cape Town is only an hour and a half’s drive away, making the town quite easily accessible for visiting family and friends.”
