National monument with multiple accommodation for sale in Paarl

A property which is a national monument with abundant accommodation has come onto the market in Paarl, exclusively through Pam Golding Properties.  

Occupying over 2700sqm in the historic heart of the town, the property offers a total of 11 bedrooms, spread across three different residences, each with its own separate entrance.  The homes have all been restored to pristine condition, and are set within a lush garden. The property is on the market at R5.999 million.

PGP agent Adri Holm says the main house, known as “Eikenhof”, was constructed in 1900 for a wealthy wagon-maker and his family of ten children.  The cottage on the property, known as “Kleinehof”, is even older, dating back to around 1890.  Both buildings were declared national monuments in the 1970’s.

“Eikenhof” is a single-storey villa with extensive Victorian detail.  The home consists of four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge, dining room and family room, as well as a study, double garage and staff accommodation.  A spacious country kitchen has a separate pantry and eat-in area, while an enclosed veranda provides a shady space to relax in all weather conditions.
Semi-detached to this homestead is a separate double-storey residence with bay window, known as “Op’thof”.  This section offers a further four bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus another dining room, study and living room, and a kitchen with separate scullery.  This residence also has a separate double garage.

The final home, the cottage “Kleinehof”, has three bedrooms, a single bathroom, living room and pyjama lounge, as well as its own kitchen and storeroom.

Holm says the property would be ideal for a large and multi-generational family, allowing teenagers and grandparents to enjoy their own private space while still living within the family home.  “This area with its beautiful oak-lined streets and gracious homes is close to some of the best schools in the country, making it ideal for families,” she says.

PGP area manager for Paarl, Surina du Toit, adds that the property also has potential for development as a guesthouse, subject to planning approvals.  “Heritage homes are particularly well-suited to the hospitality industry, and this property’s layout would lend itself to ample guest accommodation while still reserving a private space for the owner or manager,” she says.
