Douw Steyn, one of the richest men in the country, recently allowed a rare glimpse into his Fourways Palazzo when it was featured on the SABC lifestyle programme Top Billing - and it is beyond your wildest dreams!
With an estimated net worth somewhere close to R16 billion, the entrepreneur first made his name in the insurance game. More recently he has become synonymous with Steyn City - also located just outside of Fourways - where the plans of turning this residential development into the premier mixed-use eco-city is well underway.
Dubbed the “Palazzo Steyn” (Steyn Palace) the 3,000 square metre home was valued at R250 million four years ago when it was completed and is believed to be the most expensive home in the country.
Taking inspiration from classic Italian design - if you couldn’t guess from the name - the home features a bronze dome in the entrance hall, marble floors and an aqueduct that almost completely circles the property which was designed to look as if it has collapsed over a gorge.
Inside you will find picture-perfect lounges that fittingly echoes “Gatsby-era” decor and design while the eclectic outdoor areas take inspiration from Europe, India, the Middle East and Africa.
