CroYdon Wine and Olive Estate a huge hit with buyers

The CroYdon Wine and Olive Estate located on Old Main Road on the edge of Somerset West is proving to be a huge hit with local Capetonian and Johannesburg buyers says Seeff agents, Claudine Wheeler and Gerhard van Deventer.

In under a year, 45 plots, most with building plans and 10 completed homes have sold to a mix of local, Johannesburg and international investor buyers at prices of between R550, 000 for a plot and R2,6 million for a completed home.

Plots priced between R560,000 and R660,000 have sold to buyers from Belgium and the Netherlands. A mix of Johannesburg investors and buyers relocating to the city have snapped up 8 plots, priced from R550,000 to R800,000 for 780sqm, most with building plans for homes priced up to R2,65 million. The remaining 34 plots sold to local Capetonian buyers, many from the Northern Suburbs and even Camps Bay say the agents.

Capetonian buyers also snapped up completed homes priced up to R2,6 million for a three-bedroomed home with a study, swimming pool and double garage. An expat based in Qatar also acquired a three bedroomed home here for R2,27 million while three Gauteng buyers bought homes priced between R2,2 million and R2,5 million.

The agents attribute the buoyant sales to the fact that the estate offers an affordable winelands lifestyle. Out-of-town buyers are drawn here not only for the tranquil surroundings, but also the security and close proximity to the airport, city, beaches (which are a mere ten minutes away) and the facilities such as shopping, medical, schools and wine farms that are literally on the doorstep.

CroYdon is the first working wine residential estate in the country and produces an award-winning red wine under signature of Beyers Truter of Beyerskloof. Aside from living amongst vineyards with stunning views of the Helderberg Mountains, owners own a share of the winery and get an annual allocation of the wine produced on the farm.

The estate comprises 43 hectares with over 200 properties. Stands are 780sqm in extent and sell for around R600,000 depending on location while completed homes sell for around R2,6 million depending on size and finishes.

The estate has a lifestyle centre with a gymnasium, swimming pool, restaurant, wine cellar and events venue, a children's' playground and wine and olive tastings and festivals along with other monthly family activities says Wheeler who is also a resident here. There is a real community feeling here and residents get to enjoy outdoor activities such as walking along the estate dams that attract birds, ducks, geese and fish eagles.
