Boutique residential development unveiled on portion of historic La Cotte farm

A unique boutique residential development has been unveiled on a portion of the historic La Cotte farm in the heart of Franschhoek.

The farm is one of the most scenic locations in the valley and is one of the original farms granted to French Huguenot families in 1694. The development, known as Klein La Cotte comprises 11 exclusive plots that range in size from 750sqm to 796sqm, priced between R1,9 million and R2,9 million. The entire portion could also be bought by a developer says the agent.

The development sits in an elevated position at the slope of the Franschhoek Mountains and overlooks the village. It is a short walk from the trendy Main Road lined with exclusive restaurants, boutiques and art and antique stores says Seeff Franschhoek agent, Jeanine Allen. The exclusive Bridge House Private School is a short drive away.

Buyers have the opportunity to build a home on a portion of one of the original farms with historic buildings (including the well-known La Cotte Mill and the oldest Oak Tree in the country) and a rich history linked to the early development of the village says the agent. Every plot has a good location and stunning views. It is prime property in the heart of the village that is set to increase significantly in value in the years to come.

Great care has been taken in the planning of the development to ensure it does not interfere with the views and vernacular integrity of the village, says the agent. The character and form of the new residences and landscaping will confirm to architectural guidelines aimed also at retaining the integrity of the landscape and early Cape homestead and outbuildings on the remaining La Cotte farm.

In keeping with these, rectangular shapes form the basis of house designs. Homes will be single storey (but can incorporate mezzanine levels) with double pitched corrugated roofs painted in matt grey. Pergolas and verandas are provided for. Exterior walls will be plastered and painted, but some natural stone may be incorporated.
