"The miracle of your existence calls for celebration every day"
~ Oprah Winfrey
Which areas do you operate in?
Great Brak River, Reebok, Tergniet , Fraaiuitsig and Little Brak River
What makes your area special?
In the heart of the Garden Route along the vast stretch of coast line, this area offers a break from city life. Although not too far to feel cut off, it lies midway between George & Mossel Bay.
In season, holiday makers pack the white sandy beaches, and every day the local residents can enjoy the beauty of the ocean and tranquility of the surrounding Jonkersburg and Outeniqua mountains, making it truly a sort after piece of paradise.
Although initially a holiday destination, and also a place to come and retire, the area is becoming more popular for couples to live and raise a family. Schools, hospitals and shopping centres are close enough. So much more can be said about this area, why not come and discover it yourself!
Why did you pursue a career in property?
I have been associated with the real estate business since 1991, with my first introduction whilst working for the Nedcor Group in position of Branch Manager. A large part of my responsibilities included market penetration of the banks products, with a focus on home loans and Estate Agency liaison. This experience gave me an understanding of the industry and it was at this point that I wanted to learn more and become more involved. Career opportunities opened up for me with a move to MortgageSA (Ooba) and then as a Property Consultant.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
The challenge is to remain positive at all times. There will be so many disappointments, but one must keep on believing that all the hard work will be rewarded. There is something new to learn every day, so see a challenge as an opportunity to learn.
...and the most enjoyable?
The privilege of meeting and working with a broad spectrum of people, and the anticipation of what a new day brings.
In your opinion, what makes a great agent?
Perseverance is the key. You will reap the rewards of your hard work. Be professional at all times and never lower your standards. Always be open and honest with your clients to gain their trust. Go the extra mile.
Please share some of your career goals with us
From when I started as an intern in 2009, my goal was to learn from the professionals and to gain the knowledge and skills to be one of the best! This takes hard work and dedication, and my goal is to obtain my NQF5 qualification and PDE in the next two years.
What is the one thing you wish you knew before you started out as an estate agent?
The advice I would give:
1) Know your market and keep up to date with market trends.
2) Always be available for your clients. Be honest & true to your word and your actions and your clients will remain loyal.
3) Don't make promises you know you cannot keep, and just be true to yourself.
4) Work hard and you will reap the rewards.
5) Maintain a positive attitude - it shows in your body language.
Do you remember the first property you've sold?
Oh yes! I sold my first property off the internet - the buyer signed the offer to purchase without even viewing the house. I was so nervous that he would not like the house when he saw it, but to my relief, he said it was perfect! The sale went through without a hitch! I have been managing the rentals on this property ever since, and now have taken a Sole Mandate to sell the same property. As the saying goes, the wheel turns.
Where do you draw motivation from...what inspires you?
The anticipation of a new day inspires me! I am fortunate to be able to motivate myself but gain insight and strength from my personal relationship with God.
Any books you currently read?
I am not a good reader, and am not into novels. I mostly read publications with a spiritual message.
Any advice you can give sellers & buyers in today's market?
Listen to your Estate Agent, they know what is happening in the market, and be open to their advice. The industry is becoming more professional and your Estate Agent is required to achieve certain qualifications which takes dedication and commitment, which earns respect
