Entrepreneur ranks RE/MAX as world’s top real estate brand

RE/MAX is the number one real estate franchise in the world - and the number 10 franchise overall - according to Entrepreneur magazine's 29th Annual Franchise 500 survey.

The survey will be published in January 2008 in the magazine’s January 2008 issue and on the magazine's Web site.

Announcing the news in Cape Town this week, Jeanne van Jaarsveldt, Marketing and Finance Director of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, noted that RE/MAX had a long and successful history in the survey. The group was ranked in the eleventh spot overall a year ago, number eight in 2006, tenth in 2005 and nineteenth in 2004.

Van Jaarsveldt says the magazine’s franchise survey was underpinned by “huge global clout” and generally regarded as an authoritative guide to the world’s top franchise brands.

“RE/MAX is indeed the globe’s foremost real estate brand and we believe the brand will continue to be the dominant real estate Brand in South Africa. South Africa is one of the top RE/MAX regions around the world, which now has a presence in 65 countries.”

Among real estate franchises, according to Entrepreneur magazine, RE/MAX ranks number one for the eighth time in the past nine years. The closest real estate competitor after RE/MAX in the overall category came in a distant 43.

Further boosting the successes of RE/MAX in the international survey, the company was also ranked number one overall in the Low-Cost Franchises category. It was second last year.

In addition, it tops all real estate competitors at number seven on the Global Franchises list and number ten among Fastest Growing Franchises, across all global franchise brands in all categories.

Van Jaarsveldt says all companies in the rankings are judged by the same criteria, the most important being financial strength and stability, size and growth rate. Number of years in business, length of time franchising, start-up costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and financing options are also given consideration.

The factors are plugged into a Franchise 500 formula, with each eligible company receiving a cumulative score.

Van Jaarsveldt says RE/MAX is well poised to continue its remarkable South African success story in South Africa in the forthcoming year. “We have been inundated with requests from top producing agents, as well as from various highly successful independent operators enquiring about joining our ranks.”

The thing about the property ladder is that at some point in our lives we all have reason to want to climb a rung or two higher.
