Deadline for property valuations objections extended

The City of Johannesburg has extended the deadline for customers to inspect and submit queries on its latest Supplementary Valuation Roll to July 25.
The announcement was made last week at the City’s Mayoral Committee “following a number of appeals from customers for more time to be given to inspect and submit queries,” said Johannesburg in a statement.
“Residents said they had not received notification letters on the new Supplementary Valuation Roll timeously due to the recent postal strike and limited access to the City's website,” it said.
Johannesburg’s decision comes in the wake of widespread discontent following the publication of its latest supplementary roll.
Properties included on the roll have seen an average 75% increase in their valuation with instances of valuations in excess of 300% being reported.
Allegations have been levelled suggesting that the City may have “erroneously” placed properties on to the role in contravention of the Municipal Property Rates Act.
“In addition to the extended date, valuations personnel will be able to assist customers who wish to inspect the roll and lodge objections at all the walk-in-centres at city regional offices in two weeks - form Monday 2nd of July onwards,” said the City Johannesburg.
