CONSTRUCTION UNDER WAY AT NEW BEACON ROCK DEVELOPMENT IN UMHLANGA
- 27 Jun 2012
Work is well under way on the site of the new mixed-use development, Beacon Rock, situated in a prime location at the entrance to uMhlanga village near Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, reports Elwyn Schenk, area principal for Pam Golding Properties.
Building works have commenced and the structure is already 40 percent complete, with occupation of the first section scheduled before the year-end festive season in December 2012. Ian Lambie, marketing co-ordinator for the developers, says that the ground floor retail base of the building has already been reserved by a number of well known brands such as SMG Mini & Rolls Royce and Aston Martin dealerships. “These will further enhance the contemporary and luxury feel of the development, while included in the offices situated above the retail component is a spacious suite of doctors’ rooms which will offer a range of medical services,” says Lambie.
Schenk, who has a sole mandate to market residential units at Beacon Rock, says although the development was only launched to the marketplace just prior to the December 2011/January 2012 festive season, 50 percent of the total of 68 apartments have been sold.
“The 34 remaining units include a good selection of one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as a penthouse of 240sqm which will be designed to the buyer’s specifications. Located on the upper floors, the residential accommodation enjoys maximum privacy and security. The design is tasteful and elegant, making use of modern, clean lines and bold forms.
“The location of Beacon Rock is ideal, being just minutes’ walk to the attractive beaches and buzz of uMhlanga village, which although modernised, has retained its quaint character. This new building helps address the shortage of well-designed, luxury medium-density housing available – particularly as it is within a vibrant urban/seaside environment. It is also within easy reach of Gateway shopping centre and King Shaka International Airport,” he says.
A member of the Village uMhlanga Improvement Precinct (UIP) board, Schenk says the good work being done by the UIP has helped in adding to the quality of life of uMhlanga residents and visitors alike. “The Promenade, which runs all the way from Durban View Park at the start of Marine Drive along the uMhlanga beachfront to Bronze Bay beach in the North, just before uMhlanga lagoon, is extremely popular while sidewalks and verges are well maintained and the area is clean and secure,” he says.
