BRISK SALES IN GORDON’S BAY OVER FESTIVE SEASON

Nestled at the foot of the Hottentots Holland mountain range lies one of the Cape’s best-kept secrets – the town of Gordon’s Bay. Not only does it occupy a spectacularly beautiful position between the mountains and ocean, but it also has a wide variety of homes on offer to suit all types of buyers. PGP’s area manager Linda Killick says the company now has over 50 exclusive mandates on its books in Gordon’s Bay, ranging from apartments priced at just R365 000 to luxury top-end homes around the R16 million mark. “We also have a number of homes ideal for family buyers, priced from around R1.5 million and upwards,” says Killick. “This means that families can acquire decent-sized homes and gardens at a very competitive price, and raise their children in a secure and serene environment, close to the sea, with a friendly small-town atmosphere and ample schooling and sports facilities close by. The famed Bikini Beach offers safe swimming in warm waters, and has enjoyed Blue Flag status for 3 consecutive years now. And there are ample opportunities to get out into nature, from gentle hikes in the surrounding mountains to more strenuous excursions like kloofing in the Steenbras River Gorge, paragliding or quad-biking. Watersports enthusiasts in particular are well catered for, with the town boasting two harbours, including a modern new marina around which the fabulous Harbour Island precinct has been developed, offering chic and secure apartments, restaurants and shopping opportunities.”
Gordon’s Bay lies on the fringes of the Kogelberg Biosphere, a World Heritage Site renowned for its wealth of flora and fauna, and regular visitors to the mountainside above the town include the rare geometric tortoise, baboons, lynx and even the occasional leopard. Floral lovers will appreciate the Gordon’s Bay Pincushion, which is endemic to the slopes between the town and nearby Kogel Bay. Whales also regularly frequent the bay between the months of June and November.
PGP’s MD for the Boland and Overberg regions, Annien Borg, says the company’s recent sales have included some returning expatriates as well as a number of investment buyers who have recognised the excellent value for money on offer, in addition to the convenient location. “Gordon’s Bay lies in an ideal position, close to work opportunities in Somerset West and Stellenbosch, which are under 20 minutes away, close to the airport, and even within easy reach of Kuils River and its surrounding industrial areas. Yet at the same time it is perfectly positioned for weekend getaways to Betty’s Bay, Pringle Bay, Hermanus and the like, which are under an hour’s drive from the town, along the scenic coastal road, Clarence Drive.”
