Aida opening in Mozambique

The Aida real estate franchise group is enlarging its African footprint with the imminent opening of an office in Mozambique.

The new operation will be run by Chris Pieterse, owner of the successful Aida franchise in Rustenburg, who has developed two holiday resorts near Inhambane in Mozambique in the past few years and already runs a holiday rental and management agency in Inhambane.

He says this agency is to serve as the foundation for the new Aida office, which will officially open in August. "The new office will expand the current operations and will market property offered on the open market in addition to units built by our development company, 3 Amigos.

"The holiday rental business will also be expanded to include units in other developments or single holiday homes."

Pieterse's latest Mozambican development is Duna Branca, meaning White Dunes. It is situated on a peninsula near the city of Inhambane and is built right on the beach backing on to the huge Inhambane lake.

A total of 18 units have been built on 1,3ha and the development has its own certified fresh water source. Units, sleeping eight, each offer three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living area leading to a wooden deck overlooking the beach and the ocean.

Pieterse says units are about 100m from the beach and are fully equipped. The 160sqm units are also fully air-conditioned and offer four-star accommodation in unspoilt surroundings.

Prices range between R750 000 and R950 000 but only five units are still available. Pieterse says most units were sold to South African investors who bought homes for their own holiday use and who will make them available for holiday rentals for the rest of the year.

"We have also had great interest from American buyers who have invested in units as holiday rental accommodation."

Plans for another development have been approved. The 4ha development with about 70 units will offer fractional ownership and the project will commence in due course.

Things you should consider before upgrading to a new home

The thing about the property ladder is that at some point in our lives we all have reason to want to climb a rung or two higher. Sometimes, it’s because we’ve outgrown our previous dream home, or because we want to be in a better neighbourhood that’s closer to work or to schools. Sometimes it’s because our circumstances have changed, and we’re taking care of elderly parents or relatives. Sometimes, it’s just because we want a property that reflects the financial status our hard work has won.
