The "extra 10 miles" is what has catapulted Hartbeespoort estate agent Annette Whitfield into the top ranks of the Chas Everitt International property group.
Whitfield, who specialises in property sales in the Pecanwood Golf Estate, has just been honoured as the group's Top Non-Metro Agent nationally - in spite of the fact that there are only about 800 homes in her selling area.
She outperformed colleagues in much larger non-metro regions and was recently also among the finalists for the prestigious Nedbank Property Professional of the Year award.
Whitfield ascribes her success to old-fashioned hard work as she believes that as an agent nothing should be too much trouble to ensure exceptional service to her clients.
"This attitude goes hand-in-hand with honesty and professionalism - and with building personal relationships with your clients, which should not stop the minute the property is registered in your client's name.
"In short, to be successful, you have to go the extra 10 miles," she says.
Whitfield has sold homes worth a total of more than R61m in the past year and says that in spite of the recession, luxury properties in Pecanwood are still sought-after by local professionals working in Pretoria or Johannesburg, as well as European "swallows" who spend six months of each year in SA.
Prices in the estate range between R2,2m and R14m and 110 stands are still available. Whitfield says interest in stands has grown among buyers looking for a safe location to custom-build homes for extended families and that she sold the most expensive waterfont property on the estate for R12m last year.
"The security and management of the estate are excellent and these are major draw cards for my target market. The lifestyle is another attraction. Residents have access to a boat club, social club and golf club, as well as a gym and spa. Reasonable monthly levies cover all services, including garden services, leaving residents free to enjoy their free time," she says.
The opening of Pecanwood College about five years ago and the local pre-school have also drawn increasing numbers of buyers with young families in the past few years.
