15 August 2006 – The final event in the 2006 REMAX World Long Drive Championship is almost upon us and excitement is reaching a fever pitch. The twelve qualifying events have been taking place around the country since 5th May and each one has been a resounding success.
Spectator and athlete participation has been at an all time high and the competition has been fierce. It really is anyone’s guess at this point who will be travelling to Nevada, USA to represent South Africa at the International Finals happening on October 24 – 28 at the Palms Golf Course in Mesquite. This position is quite coveted amongst our Long Drivers as the competition holds a total purse of $500, 000!
The South African representatives that took part in America last year were Nathaniel Barnes in the Open Division and Nicole Loesch in the Ladies Division. They each did incredibly well then, and have once again been proving their worth in 2006.
The National Final is being held at the NuGolf Practice Centre in Alberton on 26th August, the day’s activities start at 08h00 and the actual Final is scheduled to begin at 15h00 so all spectators should be there at least a few hours before.
