I began my journey in property with a shovel in my hands, digging trenches and building scaffolding on construction sites. It was demanding, hands-on work, but it taught me a lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career: nothing meaningful is built without putting in the work. From construction, I earned my first real opportunity in estate management. From there, my journey took me through security, gardening, maintenance and back into estate management. I have had the privilege of experiencing the property industry from the ground up, and I genuinely believe those years shaped the person and leader I am today. I learned early on that no role is insignificant when you are serious about where you are going. Every position taught me something. Every challenge added another layer of experience. Most importantly, working alongside people from all walks of life taught me to respect the person behind the job title and never forget what it feels like to be the one simply looking for an opportunity to prove yourself. Eventually, that journey brought me to the Western Cape, a place I had dreamed of calling home for as long as I can remember. I spent several years managing an estate here and remain grateful for what that chapter taught me. But deep down, I knew I wanted to push myself further. I wanted to build something bigger, challenge myself and have a more direct impact on people’s lives. That is what led me into real estate, and it was there that I found my calling. Property is deeply personal to me. Behind every transaction is a person making one of the biggest decisions of their life. It could be a family saying goodbye to a home filled with memories, a young couple buying their first property, an investor building their future, or someone simply taking the next step in life. Being trusted to stand beside someone during those moments is something I have never taken lightly. I gave this profession everything I had. I studied the market, learned from my mistakes, built relationships, kept showing up and constantly challenged myself to become better. That commitment ultimately saw me rank among the agency’s top three agents nationally, year after year. But somewhere along that journey, my definition of success changed. It stopped being only about what I could achieve personally and became increasingly about what I could help other people achieve. Today, after approximately 14 years in the property industry, I serve as an Agent, Executive Director and Shareholder at HQ Realty, where I help lead our sales division while working closely with the property practitioners building careers of their own. That part of my role means a great deal to me. I know what it feels like to start at the bottom. I know what it means to work for an opportunity, to question whether you are capable of more and then prove it to yourself through consistency, discipline and sheer determination. Because of that, when I see potential in someone, I want to help develop it. I want the people around me to grow, succeed and eventually achieve things they may once have thought were beyond them. To me, leadership is not about having the biggest title in the room. It is about setting the standard, taking responsibility when things are difficult, creating opportunities for others and never asking someone to do something you would not be prepared to do yourself. I am incredibly proud of where this journey has taken me, but I remain just as hungry for what comes next. There is still more to learn. More people to develop. More clients to serve. More opportunities to create. And a great deal more that I intend to build. I may no longer have a shovel in my hands, but the mentality that got me here has never changed.
