Young families flocking to Glenwood

The well established suburb of Glenwood, centrally situated in Durban, has appeal for home buyers due to its convenient location within easy reach of the city centre, schools and university.
Heather Sudding, manager of Pam Golding Properties Durban office, says a sought after pocket of homes exists along Evans Road, particularly in the vicinity of Glenwood Boys High School.
“Many homes in this road and near the school have been beautifully renovated – even with upmarket garden flats for visiting family and friends – offering good value for money, and as a result the area is attracting young, house-proud families with children. The street and pavements are also neat and well maintained, giving the neighbourhood further buyer appeal."
Sudding says the price range of houses in this location is mainly between R1.5 million and R1.8 million. “These homes have high ceilings and while most of them have been refurbished, in some instances they have been tastefully opened up from an interior layout perspective, providing a more modern, spacious ambience. Because this is a relatively tranquil location, with easy access to good schools, hospitals, the city centre and all key routes in and around Durban, it is popular among home buyers, including professionals such as the legal fraternity.” She says the law courts are within easy reach, with the High Court about a 10-minute drive away and the Magistrate’s Court approximately 20 minutes. A portion of homes further along Evans Road offer views over the city and harbour.
Buyers are locals as well as those relocating from other areas further inland or along the south coast. “This may be for easy access to educational facilities for their children or in order to be close to the workplace – or just for a more central location that offers a clean, stable neighbourhood," says Sudding.
Among other properties on the market in Glenwood, Pam Golding Properties is currently marketing two homes in Evans Road; the first being a three bedroom (one en suite), two bathroom home plus a one bedroom flat and staff accommodation, priced at R1.695 million. The other property has four bedrooms and two bathrooms and is priced at R1.85 million.
