Property Description
This 5500 ha Private Nature Reserve is situated in the Karoo, 180km from Cape Town and 60km from Ceres. It is located on the northern side of the Bontberg Moutains. It is the largest Natural Heritage Site in the Western Cape and 15th largest in South Africa.
It is declared a Heritage Site due to:
• The unique combination of Acock veld types on the same property
• A number of rare endemic species of flora due to its unique bio-geographical features
• Providing habitat to rare red data species of birds and mammals e.g. Black Stork, Martial Eagles, African Wild Cats and Aardwolves.
• San and Koi rock and cave paintings and living conditions dating back for 6000 years.
The Reserve is fenced in with game fencing to protect the 72 mammal, 149 bird and more than 350 flora species. There are numerous antelope species which include among others 105 Eland, 32 Gemsbok and 20 Springbuck.
Visitors to the Reserve are advised to come with 4X4 vehicles to enjoy the full extent of the 40km circular 4X4 route and have access to all the nature and heritage sites. For the visitor who does not want to pitch a tent in the 20 stand campsite, there are seven houses, cottages and huts to choose from.
To the owner and staff the farm offers the following accommodation:
Main House: Large open plan lounge/dining room, modern kitchen, 5 bedrooms en suite, patio, garden, swimming pool and generator
Manager House: Open plan louge/dining room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom.
Workers: 2 cottages
Water is supplied by 1 large and 7 smaller gravel catchment-dams, 2 windmills and a diesel-pump borehole.
