Amazing response to world record attempt by RE/MAX Randgro

A world record attempt by RE/MAX Randgro has received phenomenal response and with just a few days left to reach their goal the team are going from strength to strength.

Late last year, the Pet and Me Lifestyle Expo at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg broke the Guinness World Record for the most amount of pet food collected over a seven day period. The previous record of 9.8 tons (9 800kg), which was held by the USA was broken. Donations collected over a seven day period amounted to the record-breaking figure of 10 tons 6kgs (10 006kg).

RE/MAX Randgro, which operates in the Benoni and Boksburg areas of Johannesburg, has decided to take on the challenge of beating this record. In fact, they are looking to more than treble the amount of pet food donated, and are aiming to collect around 20 tons or 20 000kg of pet food in just seven days from 24 February to 2 March 2014.

Marika Grove, Broker/Manager of RE/MAX Randgro, says that so far there has been a phenomenal response to the Guinness World Record attempt. “Schools, corporates and their staff, and individuals within the communities in which we operate and even our competitors have all come to the party and donated pet food or cash for us to purchase pet food on their behalf. Other RE/MAX offices around the country have also joined in and supported our world record attempt, and, due to the exposure we have received in the media and online – especially through social media - everybody is talking about it, and we have even received international donations for this cause.”

As of this morning, Tuesday 25 February 2014 - just one day into the collection - RE/MAX Randgro had officially collected 1575kg of pet food. “Our collection initiative is still going strong,” says Grove. “We will be setting up collection points at various shopping centres in the Benoni and Boksburg area over the weekend 1-2 March where people can drop off their donations. Donations can also be collected – in fact we have a few bakkie-loads that still need to be collected – otherwise people are more than welcome to drop off their donations at either one of our RE/MAX Randgro offices.”

All the pet food that has been collected needs to go through the official Guinness World Record weigh-in procedure at the RE/MAX Randgro office in Benoni before it is stored in the container ready for distribution. Grove says the pet food collected will be distributed among 40 different registered pet rescue charities.

Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, says that giving back to the communities in which we operate is central to the RE/MAX ethos. “It is great to see our offices take this to heart, and to see the dedication to community involvement which makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most – whether human or animal. This is an amazing initiative for a deserving cause, and we wish RE/MAX Randgro the best of luck in achieving their goal.”

Grove says that as part of the number one real estate agency in the world, the team at RE/MAX Randgro now wants to be the number one in the eyes of the thousands of neglected and abused animals. “RE/MAX Randgro, together with our local community, can make this world record a reality. We look forward to handing over the pet food donations to registered animal shelters and charities soon.”

Those who wish to participate in this initiative are invited to donate non-perishable, non-expired pet food in its original packaging for cats, dogs, birds etc before 2 March. Should donations need to be collected, please sms “FOOD” and the address to 072 957 4683 or contact RE/MAX Randgro Benoni on 011 306 6600 or RE/MAX Randgro Boksburg on 011 916 6000 for more information.
