A walk in the woods

Situated approximately 15km from the centre of Knysna is The Woods at Brenton on Lake, a residential development consisting of 45 plot and plan, full-title properties nestled between wide open spaces.

“This new development in Brenton on Lake, offers exclusive living within a beautiful rural setting,” says Chris van der Merwe, Broker /Owner of RE/MAX Coastal, whose office services the Knysna area and surrounds. “Due to the fact that The Woods is situated on the western slope of the Knysna Heads peninsula, the exclusivity of the area is guaranteed as development is limited by its position. On the eastern side of the land is the Knysna Lagoon and along the western shore is the Indian Ocean, ensuring that the development’s country setting is certain.”
Van der Merwe says that Brenton on Lake has its own slipway as well as sufficient mooring space for homeowners to own a boat. The launching jetty allows residents to access Knysna's famous waterfront in a matter of minutes.
He notes that locals consider the area of Brenton on Lake a wildlife sanctuary. “This is largely due to the fact that a great number of wild antelope can be seen roaming through the area. There is also prolific birdlife, boasting a wide variety of species that have made the region their home,” says Van der Merwe. “The rural setting, wildlife and the security aspect of living within a lifestyle estate has made The Woods highly sought-after among buyers in the area, with 80% of the properties already sold and only nine still available for purchase.”
Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, says that properties situated within secure estates are generally sought-after due to the lifestyle offering they provide. A unique lifestyle estate such as The Woods provides buyers with an alluring blend of aesthetic appeal and peace of mind.

According to Van der Merwe, many of the buyers in the development have been young professionals and retired people.  “The estate caters to buyers from all walks of life with five property plans that can be chosen. The most popular type of home plan offers three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, an entrance hall, study nook, wrap-around covered patio, built-in braai, under-floor heating, scullery and pantry that is separate from the kitchen, a double automated garage as well as a swimming pool as an optional extra. All kitchens feature Bosch appliances,” he says.

Vacant stands in the development range in size from 689m2 to 914m2, while homes range in size from 120m2 to around 335m2. Building packages start at R1.295 million and go up to R2.395 million.  RE/MAX Coastal is currently marketing a property within the development that has reduced in price from R2.295 million to R2.195 million, with no transfer duty payable. The three-bedroom home features 2.5 bathrooms, open-plan living and dining area, a modern kitchen with Caesar stone countertops and stainless steel oven, along with a separate scullery and pantry. The home also offers wrap-around patios, a double automated garage and built-in braai.

The thing about the property ladder is that at some point in our lives we all have reason to want to climb a rung or two higher. Sometimes, it’s because we’ve outgrown our previous dream home, or because we want to be in a better neighbourhood that’s closer to work or to schools. Sometimes it’s because our circumstances have changed, and we’re taking care of elderly parents or relatives.
