Ex-bok coach's property fetches top price

A house owned by former Springbok coach Harry Viljoen is being sold for one of the highest prices in Upper Fresnaye.

The asking price was R110 million and it was purchased in the past few weeks by a Middle Eastern buyer, negotiated by Jackie Rosenberg of Pam Golding Properties Atlantic Prestige. It is unclear whether the asking price was met. The parties have agreed to keep the final selling price confidential, but sources said it was the highest price fetched in the suburb.

The home at 50 Avenue St Batholemew covers 1 000m2 on 1 789m of land, and the sale includes two adjoining erven. It was designed by renowned architect Stefan Antoni.

The marketing material stated: "This exquisite, exceptionally private and secluded north-facing home is made all the more special by a unique level lawn with an olive grove, allowing for outdoor entertaining on a grand scale.

"With a large rim-flow pool and impressive entertainment areas, this property offers all the luxurious comfort one could want in one of the Cape's premier addresses. The upper entertainment level boasts a media room, private formal lounge and butler's kitchen. A home theatre, restaurant, bar and steam room are just a few of the features on the lower entertainment level."

Previously, the highest-priced property sold in the Bantry Bay and Upper Fresnaye areas was R65m.

Viljoen said he did not wish to comment and asked for privacy.
