Top Mossel Bay estate agency converts to Chas Everitt

Activity in the Mossel Bay property market is increasing as the character of the town changes from a holiday and retirement destination to a thriving and bustling business centre.

“Mossel Bay is a rising star among South Africa’s larger towns and smaller cities,” says Chantelle Grard, co-owner of a top performing local Mossel Bay estate agency that has just converted to the Chas Everitt International brand.

“It was recently ranked first among the Top 10 municipalities picked by Finweek as being business friendly and offering the best opportunities and potential for growth. And its local economy is thriving as more and more business people and professionals decide to relocate here on a permanent basis and establish new enterprises that help to create more jobs and further opportunities.”

Mossel Bay location is an important factor in these relocation choices, she says. Situated exactly midway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, it is only 40km from George International airport for those who need to travel on business, and is also regarded as the western start point of the Garden Route, which is one of the country’s major tourist attractions.

“Another big plus point is the climate, which has for years made Mossel Bay a destination of choice for holiday-home buyers, while a relatively low crime rate and excellent medical facilities add to the attractions for retirees.”

There are also excellent schools and sporting, entertainment and shopping facilities in the town, with a third mall currently under construction and plans being hatched for a waterfront development, Grard says.

“However, we feel that the strongest attraction at the moment is the wide variety of well-priced homes that offer extremely good value for money. For example, one can still acquire a good seaview stand here for around R350 000, and Mossel Bay property sale prices mostly range between R900 000 and R1,5 million – although luxury beachfront homes generally start at around R3 million and can range all the way up to R26 million.

“Buyers and Garden Route property investors are definitely beginning to respond to these opportunities and the number of property sales in Mossel Bay is rising month by month, with the only real stumbling block now being the strict deposit and lending criteria for first-time buyers. Fortunately, many of those moving here from other towns have already sold their previous properties and have cash in hand.”

Having been in the real estate industry for more than 25 years, Grard accumulated many awards as a top performer for another national real estate company, until she decided to establish an independent estate agency along with co-owner Charmaine Deacon, who has some 15 years of experience as a top agent.
It is this agency, Choose Success, which has now been converted to the Chas Everitt International brand, and which will become “home base” for all the Chas Everitt agents covering the stretch of coast from Dana Bay to the west of Mossel Bay to Klein Brak and Groot Brak in the east.
