Rael Levitt will challenge warrant

After not appearing in front of the National Consumer Commission (NCC) Auction Alliance founder Rael Levitt has said that he will challenge the NCC’s application to obtain an arrest warrant.

The NCC said they would apply for an arrest warrant for the embattled CEO after he failed to appear for hearing into bid rigging and fraud, but lawyers for Rael Levitt said that they would challenge this.

The commission found him guilty of of using a ghost bidder to drive up the price of a Stellenbosch wine farm.

Levitt's lawyer Dale Smiedt indicated any warrant of arrest obtained against its client would be subject to a legal challenge. Smiedt will apply to have it set aside.

He insisted the summonses issued by the NCC were invalid.

Smiedt argued it was wrong for the NCC to first recommend that a court slap Levitt with a R1 million fine or a 12-month imprisonment, and then call him to give evidence.
