RealNet opens in Klerksdorp

The RealNet estate agency group has opened an office in Klerksdorp to bring its signature high-quality service to property consumers in North West Province.

And Jaco Faurie (subs: sp correct) and Pierre Ludick, who have obtained the franchise rights for the area including Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein and Hartbeesfontein, report that the local real estate market is steadily improving. At the same time, they say, there are opportunities arising for buy-to-let investors.

Ludick says the market has been showing encouraging growth for the past few months. “Numerous new developments are being planned for the area, including housing projects that will deliver some 7000 new homes and several schools as well as new commercial and religious facilities.”

Faurie adds that investors can, however, find good value in older properties. “Old mine houses in Stilfontein in particular are offering excellent opportunities, with solid family homes selling at prices of between R300 000 and R600 000.

“Such value is not only attracting outside investors, but also retirees, first-time buyers and buyers who work in Potchefstroom 40km away and who are willing to commute,” he says.

Prices of family homes in Klerksdorp start at around R500 000 and the market is currently underpinned by local buyers who are taking advantage of low interest rates to get a foot in the property door, as well as farmers in the district investing in town homes.

The markets in Orkney and Hartbeesfontein are still somewhat subdued, says Faurie, but speculation that the uranium mine near Hartbeesfontein may soon be re-opened is generating new enquiries for property in the small town. “And the local market would get a huge boost if the mine was indeed re-commissioned.”

RealNet Klerksdorp also serves the agricultural sector, in which cattle and crop farming predominate. However, says Faurie, Gauteng investors are currently also targeting land to establish game farms.
