With signs of home buyers re-entering the market and as spring casts a fresh glow on the landscape, the residential property marketplace currently offers some interesting and unique opportunities.

Phil Medlock, Pam Golding Properties area principal for the Vaal area says purchasers are starting to re-look at leisure properties, particularly those easily accessible for weekend getaways.

"At Willow Creek, a mere one hour's drive on open roads from Johannesburg and 15km from Deneysville on the upper Vaal River, fully serviced, freehold homes are selling on a secluded estate with 15km of unpolluted navigable river ideal for water sports.

"Thirty have already been sold and 11 homes completed, while all services and roads have been installed. The remainder of 60 erven are now available, ranging in size from 550-1050sqm and with plot and plan packages ie stand and homes included, priced from R2.695 million (excluding attorney's fees) for a 234sqm home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, up to R4.25 million for a river front stand and 290sqm double-storey home with spectacular river views. These offer very good value when compared to other Vaal River developments which are generally priced in excess of R3 million," says Medlock.

Fully secured with palisade and electric fencing and access control, Willow Creek is set on 30 hectares with a broad range of facilities including jetties, a slipway and boat houses as well as wireless internet coverage. The estate includes walking paths where one can spot fallow deer and other species of game including the elusive otter and over 100 different species of birds. Conservation is a main priority with over 3000 trees planted in addition to the existing, established trees.

Strict architectural guidelines are in place to ensure consistency, with the style being unique Old Transvaal Farm House either as appealing log homes or in a conventional build, with an abundance of open plan space and decks to maximise the scenic and peaceful views over the estate and river.

"It's hard to believe that this tranquil hideaway is only 20km from shopping facilities in Vereeniging, while quality golf courses, the Emerald Casino complex, Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club and excellent restaurants are all within a 15 minute drive. This is an ideal family getaway offering sound value for money, with the potential as a good investment given the ongoing popularity of Vaal River property," adds Medlock.
