Chas Everitt opens on South Coast

A new Chas Everitt International branch will be opening at the beginning of September to serve homebuyers and sellers from Shelley Beach to Southbroom on KwaZulu-Natal's balmy South Coast.

The franchise has been awarded to Neville Collett, an attorney who also owns a long-established law firm in Margate. His interest in real estate grew as a result of his extensive experience in conveyancing, he says, and he opted to join Chas Everitt because it is a resilient company underpinned by strong principles.

"At the same time its management style is modern and relevant and its support structures are a cut above the rest. Moreover, its industry-leading technology enables franchisees to serve clients in a fast and efficient manner."

Chas Everitt Franchising director Barry Davies says the group is excited about Collett coming on board. "It has taken us a fair amount of time to find the right operator for the Margate area. The franchise opportunity there attracted a lot of attention, but many applicants were just looking to utilize the brand name without adopting the Chas Everitt culture and systems.

"With Neville, however, we feel that we have a cultural match and his thinking mirrors our own in terms of how we will approach the market. He is a very welcome addition to our team."

Collett says the property market in his franchise area has effectively "bottomed out" and is now primed for an upturn.

"Indeed, there are already signs of life. We are in the process of registering a transfer of a property which sold for R6,5m and properties in the R1m bracket are beginning to sell fairly well again.

"Meanwhile the holiday rental market is faring surprisingly well despite the recession, with daily rates for units on the beachfront ranging from R1200 in low season to R2500 in high season."
