East Rand the best kept property secret

The East Rand property market is poised for take off, with awareness growing of the appeal of Gautengs most "user-friendly" area.

So says Harry Nicolaides of CENTURY21 Deal Design, one of the winners of the recent CENTURY21 franchise award programme, who adds that market activity in the area is steady at the moment, as are prices within a 20km radius of the OR Tambo International airport.

"The East Rand, inclusive of Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan and Kempton Park has thrown off its old image of a mining and industrial area. There's definitely activity, our show house days are well attended and business is being done.

"Industry is in fact still very much part of the make-up of the East Rand in the form of Isando and Dunswart. However it now also has a well-balanced residential and commercial economy, offering an enormous variety of properties from entry-level homes to upmarket luxury mansions."

The area is characterised by leafy residential suburbs situated close enough to industrial and commercial nodes for convenience but far enough away not to interfere with the peace and tranquillity of home life, he says.

"Facilities-wise the East Rand boasts two top residential golf estates, several famous golf courses and superb 'shoplexes' including Eastgate and the East Rand Mall which is reputed to have more shoppers per square metre than any other mall in the country. The Sandton and Centurion nodes are also less than 30 minutes' drive away.

"Good schools and medical facilities are also to be found in the area and entertainment facilities including two casinos figure prominently in the life of East Rand citizens."

Another key to the success of the area, says Nicolaides, is the presence of OR Tambo International, which is at the centre of a vast residential and industrial complex, one of the most important in South Africa, featuring leading international and South African corporates.

"And the area is also attractive to retirees due to its conveniences. Security village stand-alone homes, clusters and sectional title units all sell well and buyers are spoiled for choice.

"Moreover, the area is criss-crossed by a superb road network which is admittedly disrupted at the moment by road improvements but will soon, along with the Gautrain, make it even easier for residents to get around. In short, the East Rand is the best kept property secret in the country."
