Schneider Electric aiming for LEED Gold certification with new development in Midrand

Situated in the Waterfall Development, the new Schneider Electric office designed by the Aevitas Group won’t just be an eye-catching star-shaped design but will also be optimised for a superior energy performance.

The building will be situated on a five-sided site, showing off a star-shape design. The building was designed to be a perimeter building with a central, enclosed, quadruple-volume atrium flooded with natural light that penetrates the interior through large skylights. Inside the atrium you will find landscaping that includes planters that also double as public seating.

Architects at the Aevitas Group did extensive energy performance studies, including analysing thermal loads on the building - the result is facades that are single glazed, double glazed and clad in insulated aluminium panels.

The building will also boast with low-flow fittings which helped to create  a 30% reduction in water consumption, while the drip-irrigation system reduce water consumption by 55%. The building will also feature renewable energy systems, lighting control, daylighting control and HVAC to just name a few.

Even during construction an efficient waste management plan has been implemented to reduce the amount of waste generated during the construction.
