YarraBend - World’s first “Tesla Town”

Officially named YarraBend, the world’s first “Tesla Town” will be situated in a small suburb just outside Melbourne, Australia’s business district.

Developers in Australia just announced the plans to build the world’s first “Tesla Town,” where every house will have a solar roof and a built-in Tesla Powerwall. Here residents can expect to see water-usage reduced by 43%, landfill contributions by 80% and the solar panels are predicted to generate so much electricity that residents will be able to recharge their electric cars for free.

YarraBend, which is named after the Yarra River that runs through the suburb, will eventually cover an estimated 16 hectares of land with 2,500 new dwellings made up from single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments spread out across the suburb.

The first 60 homes will go on sale as early as this week, with prices ranging between R21-million and R28-million. The entire project has been designed, developed and will be built by property group Glenvill.

All the homes will boast with a full range of green features from storing and generating solar power, charging stations for electric cars, energy efficient lighting and appliances. The green features however go a little deeper as well, as all the buildings itself have also been designed to ensure minimum impact on the environment.

It is expected that the contracts for the new residences will be signed in August and residents will be able to move in by late 2017.
