The Real Estate Industry - Coming soon to a cinema near you

International film and TV industry has always had a large focus on the real estate industry as a career and many characters play these roles, portraying it as the profession which it is.

The time has now come for South Africa to follow these footprints. Mooirivier is an ensemble cast film, with a multiple story line, in the style of successful films like “Love Actually”, “New Year's Eve” and “Valentine's Day”. This is the very first South African ensemble film and industry leaders anticipate it to be the South African, as well as the Afrikaans movie of the year for 2015.

Earlier this year, Kaapland Films filmed their latest movie Mooirivier, in Potchefstroom. One of the characters, Paul Marais, is an estate agent, showing him in action as an agent. This is also how he meets his love interest in the film.

“We at Engel & Völkers are very privileged that Kaapland Films chose an Engel & Völkers shop in which to film certain scenes” says Craig Hutchison, CEO of Engel & Völkers Southern Africa. Being a real estate agent could be quite challenging at times, and we believe that the film actually gives the public a “behind the scenes” look at the life of an agent.

“After a very thorough search through all the estate agencies in Potchefstroom, we came to the conclusion that the Engel & Völkers brand was the best suited look that we were aiming for in the film. Although we could re-create our own agency for the purposes of the movie, using the Engel & Völkers shop was our first choice” says Cobus van den Berg, one of the directors of Mooirivier.

The producers of the movie, Kaapland Films' previous film, Klein Karoo, was the most successful Afrikaans Film of 2013, and third most successful South African film of 2013 behind SPUD and Khumba. More than 150 000 people saw the film in cinemas, and 30 000 plus DVD's have been sold. Several factors added to this success, but their marketing/awareness campaign definitely had a massive effect, and this time they want to go even bigger.

"LiefdeWen" is an ensemble romantic comedy with 8 individual, interlinked plots that unfold during the countdown to Easter in South Africa. It tells the tale of 8 couples - aged 10 to 70 - who go on a voyage of discovery of what love truly is - not the fairy tale version - but the comical reality of what it really takes to make it conquer in the end. The cast include all well-known and loved actors such as Anel Alexander, Nadia Beukes, Tim Theron, Milan Murray, Hykie Berg, Leandie du Randt, Bouwer Bosch and Heinz Winckler.

Engel & Völkers is honoured to be one of the Proud Partners of Mooirivier the Movie, together with a group of other partners such as Aramex SA, Volvo, Sarie, Groot FM. Mooirivier is set to open in all theatres, nationally on 6 February 2015.
